Shaping and Delivery of a Governance Framework
Summary
Shaping and delivery of the governance framework and PMO capability for a leading global Insurance software company to support the Initiation phase of a deployment programme for a US client.
Challenge
The insurance software company (responsible for the delivery of the programme to the end customer) needed to stand up a new PMO Capability and a robust governance framework to support the Initiation stage of delivery. There was no programme PMO capability present in-house and they approached Startiformis to help them shape this capability and in parallel transition any associated activities from a third-party supplier into their organisation.
Approach
The Stratiformis consultant operated as part of the programme delivery team and reported into the Programme Director for the duration of the engagement. A phased approach was taken to address the challenge
- Design of an initial governance framework, using best practice and incorporating existing methodologies
- An initial gap analysis to ascertain what was missing or needed improvement from a programme governance standpoint and
- Shaping of a fit for purpose PMO capability and RACI
- A focussed period of activity to transition all PMO and associated activities from third party supplier into the in-house programme team The deliverables were reviewed and validated at each stage of progress and under the direction of the programme director to ensure our delivery was aligned to the overall objectives and priorities throughout the engagement.
Outcome
Following this logical approach to the design and shaping of the new PMO capability and Governance framework, we delivered a suite of products to help the client deliver a successful Initiation stage and to prepare for the next stage of implementation. Specific deliverables were: A governance framework; PMO organisational capability design & RACI; successful transition of PMO from third-party supplier into client organisation.
